Computational modelling of estrogen active substances: results of a large-scale international research project - Nov 16, 2016
Computational modelling of estrogen active substances: results of a large-scale international research project
The JRC contributed to a large-scale modelling project led by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that demonstrated the usefulness of computational models in screening thousands of environmental chemicals for their ability to bind to the estrogen receptor. Chemicals that bind to the estrogen receptor may interfere with the biological effects of the natural hormone estrogen, potentially leading to adverse effects on both humans and wildlife.
Review of alternatives to the use of vertebrate animals in ecotoxicity testing - Dec 13, 2016
Review of alternatives to the use of vertebrate animals in ecotoxicity testing
The JRC's EU Reference Laboratory for Alternatives to Animal Testing (EURL ECVAM) has contributed to a recently published overview of different approaches that are now available for ecotoxicologists and risk assessors to evaluate potentially hazardous chemicals and minimize the use of vertebrates in ecotoxicity tests.

JRC Summer School on Alternative Approaches for Risk assessment - THE PATH FROM SCIENCE TO PROTECTION OF HUMAN HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT
The JRC's Chemical Safety and Alternative Methods Unit, which incorporates the EU Reference Laboratory for Alternatives to Animal Testing (EURL ECVAM), is organising a JRC Summer School from the 16-19 May 2017, at the JRC Ispra site, on the topic of "Alternative Approaches for Risk Assessment". The overall aim is to provide comprehensive training on state-of-the-art alternative (non-animal) approaches to predictive toxicology and to promote their use within modern chemical risk assessment practice.
Alternatives to animal testing: EURL ECVAM publishes its Recommendation on the Zebrafish Embryo Acute Toxicity Test Method (ZFET) for Acute Aquatic Toxicity Testing - Jul 25, 2014
Alternatives to animal testing: EURL ECVAM publishes its Recommendation on the Zebrafish Embryo Acute Toxicity Test Method (ZFET) for Acute Aquatic Toxicity Testing
The Zebrafish Embryo Acute Toxicity Test Method (ZFET) should be used for generating information on acute fish toxicity, where appropriate. Its use would result in an overall reduction of the numbers of juvenile and adult fish for aquatic toxicity testing.
