The European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM) hosted by the JRC-IHCP has recently conducted a prevalidation study of three cell transformation assays (CTA) for carcinogenicity testing.
The responsible (pre-)validation management group concluded that the protocols for two assays are standardised, transferable and reproducible whereas some optimisation was necessary for the third CTA which needs to be further tested to confirm its robustness. The pre-validation and their conclusions are currently undergoing ESAC peer review.
