First ESAC meeting

The European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM)'s newly re-structured Scientific Advisory Committee (ESAC), composed of 15 independent scientists, met for the first time on 12-13 April at the Joint Research Centre, Ispra, Italy.
The members, selected by the JRC's Institute for Health and Consumer Protection in late 2009, agreed on the Rules of Procedures for the Committee and were briefed on the activities of ECVAM and their central role in the ECVAM validation process.
The Committee elected David Basketter (DABMEB Consultancy, UK) as Chair and Walter Pfaller (University of Innsbruck, Austria) as Vice-Chair.
The next meetings will take place in October 2010 and March 2011. The draft agendas will be published on the ECVAM website, as will the minutes of the meetings.
