To provide advice to the European Commission on scientific issues relevant to criteria for the identification of endocrine disrupters
Earlier this year, the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) took the lead of an Advisory Group to provide advice to the European Commission on scientific issues relevant to criteria for the identification of endocrine disrupters.
The Group is composed of experts nominated by Member States, EU Agencies and concerned Industry and NGO stakeholders, and will meet for the third time on 26 and 27 of June in Arona, near to the JRC premises in Ispra, on the Lake Maggiore, Italy.
Having discussed evidence and assays for identifying ED-related adverse effects and modes of action at their last meeting, the experts will now turn their attention to factors relevant for the characterisation of endocrine disrupters which may inform on the level of concern such as potency, severity and irreversibility of effects.
Two more meetings are planned this year with the aim of providing advice to the EC Environment Directorate General in the form of a written report by the end of 2012.
As reminded recently at the EU Conference on Endocrine Disruptors – Current Challenges in Science and Policy (see programme), the Commission is expected to formulate its proposal about criteria by the end of 2013.
